On October 15th, the South African College of Music in Cape Town hosted the international premiere of my new composition Pensaments de matinada as part of the LEMISA Brass Composition Award winning works concert.
Aquest concert va reunir un total de dotze obres inèdites (sis de compositors sud-africans i sis d’internacionals) interpretades per músics de Ciutat del Cap. Les peces són per a formacions de vent metall, en alguns casos acompanyades de teclat o altres instruments de vent.
Pensaments de matinada
Pensaments de matinada (Late night thoughts) is a brass quintet composition that explores a sleepless night caused by nervousness and worry. The cyclic and obsessive nature of nighttime thoughts is represented through the repetition of simple elements that gradually evolve. Unexpected accents generate tension, while rapid crescendos and decrescendos evoke waves of thought ebbing and flowing. All these elements work wonderfully with the brass quintet, creating an atmosphere of tension and anxiety throughout the entire piece and conveying the feeling of a mind trapped in a relentless, restless cycle.
